About

An independent fragrance editorial

Scent Layering Lab is an independent fragrance editorial dedicated to perfume layering, fragrance combinations, discovery and scent routines. Everything published here is written by the The Scent Layering Lab editors.

We are not professional perfumers, and we do not claim to be. What we do is test combinations properly — worn for full days, on skin, across seasons — and write down what actually happened. When a combination does not work, we say so.

How we choose products

Products are selected for how they behave inside a layering routine: whether they hold a scent down, whether they compete with what is over them, and whether they are worth their price. We link to several retailers for each item, including samples and lower-cost alternatives, so buying the full bottle is never the only option we give you.

We do not publish invented reviews, star ratings or testimonials. Where a price is shown it is a rough tier rather than a scraped figure, because prices go stale and tiers do not.

How this site is funded

Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Commission rates play no part in what we recommend — read the full disclosure.
